SoldierCare Weekend
The SioldierCare Project puts on a long weekend get away for veterans each year. It is run by a humble family, the husband being David Rosenberg, who has become a great friend to us at Emerald Arch. Even though David didn’t personally serve, he knew that he still wanted to make a difference.
“When the Iraq War started, I watched the news reports of wounded veterans coming home and wondered without political comment how I could make a difference.” - David Rosenberg
The program has been running for 14 years now, with hundreds of veterans being supported by their dream of making a difference.
This weekend for Emerald Arch, we talked about future collaborations with SoldierCare and had great conversations with many veterans about a potential experience in the jungle, to which most were excited to hear how the rainforest changed our president, Harry Turner’s life.
Our president Harry Turner talking with Sergeant Jordon Sisco of the 1-23 infantry regiment, 3-2 Stryker brigade combat team, 2nd I.D.
Sergeant Sisco served in Iraq in 2009 - 2010 and Afghanistan in 2012. The same year and area that Harry also served.
Unfortunately, Sergeant Sisco stepped on an IED in July of 2012, losing both his legs and sustaining many other injuries to his body.
Vulnerability was a huge topic of conversation between many of the veterans over the weekend. This photo shows a deep conversation about Afghanistan and struggle between not just two veterans, but to brothers.
