Emerald Arch

Community Outreach & Engagement

Keeping the population of domesticated dogs and cats under control in the Amazon is vital. Although we love them dearly, we often see these pets being hit by cars or starving to death, so preventing them from having unplanned litters is crucial in preventing this cycle.

Aside from preventing unnecessary deaths, they also unfortunately hunt wild animals in the rainforest - impacting the populations and habitats of the wild species. Domesticated dogs have even been shown to transfer mange to short-eared dogs, creating an impact that devastates wild canine populations.

Spay and Neuter Program

Workshops

We believe that in order to be successful in protecting the rainforest, everyone in the surrounding environment must be on the same page. We have several years of experience in this region, but nothing compared to the local community that has remained for decades. To exchange knowledge and skills, we work with local community members who are interested in conservation and wildlife. We have welcomed several local community members onto our protected land to collaborate on projects such as camera trapping and species surveys. We have been very fortunate to learn a great deal already from these fellow conservationists and we hope to continue this mutually beneficial relationship.

To encourage more local members to support conservation, we will be conducting informative outreach programs to broader groups.
